School Tour

  1. Live shows — 19  shows were performed at 17 schools during the first term of the 2019/20 academic year. The sudden onset of the Covid-19 pandemic does not dampen our determination to bring contemporary dance to primary and secondary schools. We took this opportunity to produce the Jockey Club Contemporary Dance Literacy and Learning Projects Online Resource.
  2. Online Content — This includes 4 episodes of short movies about contemporary dance and how our teaching artists become performers themselves. Along with these videos, there are worksheets for students and materials for teachers to help users learn more about dance in general and contemporary dance in particular. Reaching 99 schools, over 37,000 students in total.

Guided Appreciation

Live show (Re-Mark)

This year, students and teachers were able to visit the exciting new performance venue — Free Space in the West Kowloon Cultural District. 7 teachers and 119 students participated.

Online (“◯”, The Copybook of Life Challenges for Apprentice Magician)

Due to venue closures, two performances were recorded with added commentaries by Teaching Artists, as well as interviews with the creative teams. This way, students can still get to learn about what it is like to attend a live dance show. Until we meet again in theatres!

Workshops

Teachers’ Workshop (9 Nov 2019, 11 Jul 2020)

2 sessions of teachers workshop, a total of 12 teachers from 8 schools attended. Teachers explore how to express oneself through movements, as well as understand how to integrate dance into their own teaching.

Online Resources

Materials for the teachers’ workshop are also available in the Online Resource pack

Students’ Workshop (16 Nov-29 Dec 2019)

This session was attended by 14 students from 3 different schools.

Online Students’ Workshop

Also due to the Covid-19 outbreak, all but one course of the Students’ Workshop could be conducted in person. Some of our teaching artists recorded four 10-minute lessons for students to study at home. Taking into account limited space and safety, students can still enjoy the joy of dance creation even when social distancing.
